Daily Step Calorie Burner
Convert your daily step count into calories burned based on your weight, walking pace, and terrain.
How Steps Are Converted to Calories
MET values: This calculator uses Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET) values from the Compendium of Physical Activities. Walking METs range from about 2.0 (slow) to 4.3 (brisk) to 8.0+ (running). Your calorie burn = MET x weight (kg) x hours.
Step length: Average step length is approximately 2.5 feet (0.76m) for adults. Distance = steps x step length. At 10,000 steps, most adults walk roughly 4-5 miles.
Terrain multiplier: Incline walking significantly increases calorie expenditure. A 10% grade roughly doubles the caloric cost of flat walking at the same speed.
Caloric deficit: One pound of body fat contains approximately 3,500 calories. Consistent daily step increases can create a meaningful caloric deficit over time without additional exercise.
